Cutler Bails on the Bears Again

Cutler's 2nd half fumble
Monday night, Jay Cutler started the second half with a fumble and an interception on the first two drives of the second half. The momentum of the game was clearly behind the Eagles and things weren't looking good for Chicago. Seeing the tidal wave incoming, Cutler promptly headed to the locker room. It was reported he injured his right hand on the fumble, and when he came back out and threw an interception that was his queue to hit the showers. Cutler was seen with a cast on his right thumb last night after the game and will have testing done today.

In the NFL, if you're hurt, you're hurt. If you can play, you tough it out. I don't know how Cutler's teammates can deal with this. If he thought there was any chance that the injury he sustained on the fumble would affect his throwing motion, he should have been throwing on
Vikings QB Sam Bradford's hand Sunday night
the sidelines as soon as he came off the field. Cutler should have immediately let the training staff know if he thought he was unable to perform. You can't go out and "see how it feels", throw a near pick-6 and then hit the locker room. Maybe he is seriously injured, but I have a hard time believing this move went over well with everyone in the locker room.

Regardless of the circumstances of the injury, Cutler's timing was terrible. He goes down with a thumb injury in a nationally televised game, just a day after Sam Bradford legitimately had something growing inside his hand and fought through it to get the win.
