Recap: Cincinnati vs. Purdue

posted Sep 10, 2016, 12:50 PM by Jacob Geiser
After a slow start last week, UC came running out of the gates against Purdue. Cincinnati will go home 2-0 on the year after a 38-20 win against Big 10 doormat Purdue.

There was a night and day difference for the Bearcats from week one to week two. The offense looked A LOT better this week. Hayden Moore went 19 of 32 throwing
for 250 yards and three touchdowns; adding two more rushing touchdowns to his already impressive performance. The defense forced five turnovers; Mike Tyson accounted for three interceptions.

The defense was solid. They would bend, but never break. Which should give fans some hope going into Thursday's huge showdown against #6 Houston. Now it won't be an easy game, Greg Ward Jr is a lethal quarterback who can give a defense fits. UC has shown the ability to turn people over so far, and that will need to be the case on Thursday night.

Offensively, the balance was perfect. They had 262 yards on the ground and 250 in the air. I think OC Zac Taylor is happy with 512 yards of offense, especially at how balanced the attack was. Balance will be another key on Thursday. If UC can duplicate the performance come Thursday, I like the Cats chances.

Game Balls

Hayden Moore and Mike Tyson get my game balls for obvious reasons. Hayden Moore was efficient on offense, he looked a lot more comfortable this week than he did last week. That is a trend that needs to keep going upward for Cincinnati to be successful. Next week will be a big game, and Hayden Moore knows what needs to be done.

Mike Tyson was huge today. Can't do much better than 3 INT's, okay maybe 4 and so on would be better but you get the idea. When UC needed a big time play on defense Tyson was there. Let's hope Tyson and the defense can duplicate a 5 turnover day this upcoming Thursday.

Bring on the Cougars.
