The Wentz Wagon is Moving Too Fast

Eagles QB Carson Wentz has dazzled the nation over the past couple of weeks. He has managed to win the first three games of his rookie season without throwing a single interception and maintaining a passer rating of 103.8. Wentz looks like he may be the savior Philadelphia needs in the post-Chip Kelly era. He is young and may have a bright future in a city that hasn't seen elite QB play since Donovan McNabb let them to a Super Bowl.

Everyone wants to hop on the Wentz train and rightly so, but I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves a tiny bit. For example, I don't think it is ever a good idea to compare anyone, much less a rookie QB who has only played three games, to Peyton Manning pre-snap. Also, nobody can be deservedly called Aaron Rodgers post-snap until they have had the playoff success that Rodgers has year in and year out. Lastly, I don't think we can determine that someone is Favre-esque after only just over 100 passes.

Wentz looks great, but it is so early; too early to tell what the rest of the season will bring, and definitely too early to say what his career will bring. The kid throws 100 passes without an INT and people act like he is the second coming of Christ. Let's take a step back and remember that the season is 16 games long, we don't know if Wentz can maintain this level of success.

Let's not over-hype this guy. I want to see him succeed, and its going to make it hard if the entire country thinks he is the next Peyton Manning, or Aaron Rodgers, or Brett Favre. He has a great defense and is in a great position to be successful, but Wentz has a long way to go before he can be considered among those names.

He has the potential to be a great QB and the face of the Eagles franchise, but don't get ahead of yourself; he's only played three games.
