FCC vs. Palace: 1 Month Out

June 16, 2016
Article by Austin James

We've all heard about the buzz and the date is creeping up. FC Cincinnati will host Crystal Palace at Nippert Stadium one month from today, July 16.

This is a big game for the USL squad, who has quickly become popular due to incredible attendance. However, this match will serve to elevate their name to a national level because of the nature of their opponent, a Barclays Premier League side. The game is sure to add tremendous buzz to the already enthusiastic fan-base of the newest addition to Cincinnati's professional sports scene.

The prestige of the British club is daunting when looked at from FCC's perspective, but is important to remember that the U.S. has held its ground against Palace in the past. For example, they could only muster a 2-2 draw with another Ohio club, the Columbus Crew. In addition, Palace may be lacking talent at Nippert due to Euro 2016, most notably star midfielder Yohan Cabeye who may be in action with the French national squad. Palace fell 2-1 to Manchester United in its most recent contest, the Emirates FA Cup.

As for FCC, they won their most recent match at home versus FC Montreal 2-1. They will compete in five more matches before the host Palace, only two of which at home in Clifton. The club currently sits in third in the stronger USL Eastern Conference standings with a record of 7-2-3 behind Louisville City FC and the New York Red Bulls II. Their next match is at home against Toronto FC II on June 18.
