"The U" Part 3?

The Mark Richt era in Coral Gables kicks off this Saturday when the Hurricanes take on Florida A&M. Miami has had some very disappointing season the past few years. The last title the Canes won was under Larry Coker in 2001 when they beat Nebraska. They have come close, the following year but lost off a questionable pass interference call in the end zone against Ohio State.

Randy Shannon? He didn't get the job done. Al Golden? He didn't get the job done.

Miami was able to bring in former QB and alumni of the school Mark Richt. Richt was let go from Georgia following a 10-3 season. Doesn't make much sense firing a guy who went 145-51 at Georgia from 2001-2015.

Now, he is Miami's most prized possession. He holds the future of the Hurricanes program in the palm of his hands. It is safe to say, that the Canes are in good hands.

Richt was an unbelievable recruiter at Georgia, his teams were always competitive and in the hunt for and SEC title. That was also in the SEC. There is no Nick Saban and Alabama in the ACC, which benefits not only Richt but the Canes. Miami may stumble across something with the hiring of Mark Richt.

"The U" part 3?

I hope so. I'm kind of sick of seeing the same teams dominate the college football landscape. When I say that I mean its the same 6 teams every year who it comes down to the wire with. I want a new team in that top tier. I want a new team in there, so why not Miami?

I was a big fan of the documentaries on the 'Renegade Hurricanes', the small bits and pieces of highlights that I saw were awesome. I want to see a new "dynasty". Alabama and OSU are the two teams that come to mind as of late. Miami had two, which are the reasons why there is The U part one and two. Bringing in a guy like Richt; who was the backup to Hall of Famer Jim Kelly, is great. He understands what it means to play at the University of Miami.

That understanding of what it means to play at Miami is harped on consistently in both documentaries. That understanding is part of the magic. Mark Richt can get the players to Coral Gables. Now it is just a matter of time before his team is consistently being talked about for the College Football Playoff.

In his first year, he has one of the best quarterbacks in the country; Brad Kaaya. The junior QB is one of the top prospects for the NFL draft. Richt has something special in Kaaya. He is an experienced QB with a good arm and has all the tools to be successful. He may be in a new system but that shouldn't be too much of a concern.

Don't expect them to be the favorite right away, but with only Florida State and Clemson as the big dogs, expect Richt's Cane to be the top dog shortly.

I'm really excited to see if this idea could become a reality. Ball is in your court Hurricanes.
