Hope Solo has been suspended by US Soccer for six games due to the "cowards" comment she directed at the Swedes after the US Olympic loss.

US Soccer stated that: "The comments by Hope Solo after the match against Sweden during the 2016 Olympics were unacceptable and do not meet the standard of conduct we require from our National Team players". This is the second time Solo has been suspended in two years as she was dealt a 30 day suspension in 2015 for issues that arose during training camp.

US Soccer also noted: "Beyond the athletic arena, and beyond the results, the Olympics celebrate and represent the ideals of fair play and respect. We expect all of our representatives to honor those principles, with no exceptions."

In today's sports world, it is necessary for every event to either showcase an intense rivalry or they feature a hot-head athlete who is so unpredictable that you have to tune in to watch. The Olympics consistently feature neither of these. Without the American v. Soviet rivalry, they have lost their luster. That was a great rivalry that forced Americans to tune in to cheer on their country against an evil empire. Now, we are left to half-heartedly root against China because they are the boogyman for every American problem.

US Soccer should let this go. Let Solo say whatever she wants and hopefully she can start a feud with Norway's star striker; then maybe people will tune into the next US Soccer match. I need a rivalry. I need competition. I need Solo calling Sweden a "bunch of cowards" until a Swedish forward tries to put a soccer ball in her teeth. Bottom line, give me a Richard Sherman rant or a mic-ed up Kevin Garnett on the pitch and I am tuning into that game 9 times out of 10. Olympic sports need some entertainment value, and you can't get that by suspending the best goalie in the world for calling someone a coward.
